THINGS THAT MAY CHANGE

COMPANY SIZE

This element is yet to be determined* but will be put in place for the following reasons:

  • We prefer to deal with smaller companies and offer more people the chance to start a local business, rather than support only a few international companies who own the products & services we consume.
  • Bigger suppliers are most likely operating on a national and international level and we want to support companies who want to operate locally.
  • The size limit helps to diversify choice by encouraging other people to start businesses to keep up with demand. By helping our customers to shop locally, we therefore encourage more people to spend their money with new potential businesses instead of with national and international companies. This also ends up giving customers a better service as local companies will understand local needs better than companies who are not located in the area.
  • We favour handmade products over machine made ones. This is one of our main focuses, to bring back jobs that have been replaced by large industrial machinery. We do understand that using machinery is often essential but we will always keep this in mind when choosing suppliers.

The exception to this rule will be packaging companies, larger arable farms and any larger company who happens to be the only provider of a service or activity in the area.

PRICE OF GOODS

  • We aim to work with product makers on finding ways to reduce the costs of goods as demand increases. Saving our customers money and increasing local business profits will be high on our list of priorities.
  • We have purchasing tiers so customers can get further discounts on goods if they wish to purchase larger quantities. The price of these will decrease over time.
  • We mark up non-organic goods more as we want to encourage people to purchase organic.

PACKAGING MATERIAL

  • We aim to mainly use glass, with preferably metal closings but will consider using compostable materials to hold loose produce such as cherry tomatoes or blueberries.  We will only do so if and when we are happy with the standards and resources being used to produce this packaging. We will only use this if we do not manage to introduce reusable produce bags.**
  • Items such as toothbrushes or Diva Cups might come with packaging unless we can convince these companies to sell these to us without the packaging.

PRICE OF PACKAGING

  • As we grow, we will be able to buy larger quantities of glass, which will enable us to reduce the price of deposits. Our system will enable us to track how much our customers have paid to date so when prices do drop, we will be able to refund customers according to what they have already paid.

MEMBERSHIP FEES

  • Depending on the cost of sanitizing our glass, we may have to introduce a small annual membership fee. We will be marking up goods by very little and will not be making any profit on the glass deposits so we might need help to cover the costs of sanitizing the glass. We will only be able to determine this once we put the system in place, which will be decided during our BETA testing phase.

DELIVERY FEES

  • Delivery fees are based on the geographical area that the platform serves and are subject to change. The platform currently serves part of BC Lower Mainland (i.e. Pemberton, Whistler and Squamish), but does not yet include Squamish and Paradise Valley. As we begin delivering to more areas (ie: Vancouver & Vancouver Island) we will aim to get rid of this all together.

**Please note that delivery fees will not apply during the BETA testing phase. We want to use this time to calculate how delivery fees will be charged.**

* The number of employees and/or net sales will determine this. We will review this policy regularly and we may see fit to raise or lower the number of employees or sales according to findings made during the implementation of the platform.
**This will be confirmed once we have decided on the logistical method we choose to operate the service under.

THINGS THAT WON’T CHANGE

INGREDIENT APPROVAL CRITERIA

  • Quality/Taste/Effectiveness: We only stock high-quality goods/ingredients that we know are sourced ethically and that taste great. With imported ingredients, we use the certification boards to determine the ethicalness of these products. See what boards we use and their policies here.
  • Certification: If possible, we aim to purchase ingredients and products that are certified. We also list certification criteria of each association so consumers are clear on how they rate their products.
  • Non-certified ingredients: If ingredients are not certified, we will explain why. For instance, if we know a product maker uses uncertified ingredients because the supplier can not afford the certification, but that we have checked that their methods are ethical, we will make this information available to consumers.
  • No GMO's: If we are unsure of this, we will say so. American companies are not required to disclose this so it often makes it tricky to get this information.
  • Full disclosure of synthetic ingredients: We will mark all ingredients that are synthetic clearly in each product description and in what amount they are used.
  • Safe for septic systems.
  • Vegan unless stated.
  • Not tested on animals.

Our company uses a variety of sources when it comes to choosing what ingredients we allow to be used in the products we sell. From very conservatively funded organizations to alternative medicine practitioners, we like to look at what the overall opinion is on ingredients we are unsure of. If we choose to stock a product with an ingredient that has these organizations divided, we will make this clear to our customers.

Please refer to our ingredient page for specifics on what ingredients we do not allow in our products.

SUPPLIER PRODUCT APPROVAL CRITERIA

  • Quality/Taste/Effectiveness: As mentioned above, we only purchase goods from people we have met and trust. The taste and how well their products work, are then what we take into consideration.
  • Local: All of our product suppliers have to be located within the platform service area. If they are not, it is because no one currently makes or sells the product locally.
  • Company size: This element is yet to be determined, but once set, it will be reviewed regularly.
  • Ingredient providers: We would prefer that our suppliers consider using local ingredients if we can get them at equal price and quality.
  • Transparency: We favour suppliers who are totally transparent. We will not ask how a product is made but would like to know what ingredients are being used, where they come from (if possible) and we may ask for the cost of ingredients.***

GEOGRAPHICAL AREA THE PLATFORM SERVES

  • We believe this distance to be key in knowing where our products come from and it is also what will allow us to re-use all the packaging.

TRANSPARENCY WITH OUR CUSTOMERS

  • We will always inform our customers of the way we do things and of the struggles we are facing at any given time. If we think we can improve in certain areas of our business then we will let our customers know.

*** Providing the cost of ingredients is voluntary at this stage and we only ask to help with ways to reduce the cost of production.
